About

Hi! I'm Ashley Mattson, the photographer behind a.m. photography.

I'm an Upper Peninsula-based photographer specializing in authentic, heartfelt images that tell your story. My husband and I were both born and raised in the U.P., and we're now raising our three adventurous kids here too. You'll usually find us at the hockey rink, the ball field, on the lake, or chasing our next family adventure outdoors.

Creativity has always been part of who I am. Long before I picked up a camera, I was designing, creating, and studying what makes something beautiful. I earned my degree in Apparel and Textile Design and even spent time working for a fashion magazine in New York, where I developed an eye for composition, color, and the little details that make an image stand out.

When I became a mom, my passion naturally shifted. I quickly realized just how fast childhood flies by and how important photographs become as the years pass. What started as a desire to preserve memories for my own family soon grew into a passion for helping other families do the same.

Over the past several years, that passion has grown far beyond babies, children, and family portraits. While those sessions will always hold a special place in my heart, I've loved expanding into senior portraits, professional business headshots, community events, and local sports photography. Whether I'm capturing the excitement of a game-winning goal, the confidence of a graduating senior, the professionalism of a business owner, or the connection within a family, my goal is always the same—to create images that feel genuine and tell your story.

Every session is an opportunity to preserve a moment that deserves to be remembered. I feel incredibly grateful to serve so many wonderful families, businesses, athletes, and organizations throughout the Upper Peninsula, and I look forward to capturing your story next.
